Most people have an idea and state, paper, usually newspaper, and glue.
If you particularly want fine modelling paper mache then you will need:
1. Finely shredded newsprint or news paper.
2. Best mixed with wallpaper starch glue since that contains an anti-fungal agent to stop the development of nasty things.
3. Wallpaper starch glue tells you the exact amount of water to add. I know experimentation is great fun but doing it this way avoids disappointment and guarantees success
4.Best shredded paper, is from a fine cross cut paper shredder.
All of this can turn you into a green recycle artist, excellent!!!
5. Soak paper in water first, pour of the surplus and add the paste. Have fun!

The paper really needs to be layered onto a matrix. If you make anything of any size from all paper it get awfully heavy and takes ages to dry.
Make the foundation of eg wire netting and caver it with cheap - eg Newspaper whetted on one side with glue. Wallpaper paste works well. Then build up the layers to the form you want. Let it dry until firm after about 4 layers or it takes too long to dry.
When satisfied with the form give it a final layer of good quality paper and a coat of paint or varnish. A coat of plaster of Paris so that it can be sanded down if you want a good finish works well.
Then wash you hands most pastes contain fungicide which is not good for you.

we've fewer and much less newspapers each 12 months because of the fact their habitat is being lost at a in no way before seen fee. that's form of like wearing genuine fur, because of the fact the newspapers are all disappearing and there are Michael's Craft grant shops in each single place paper mache has substitute into much less and much less primary. Why slaughter newspapers for college initiatives with all of the recent and more desirable craft techniques and supplies that don't contain newspaper slaughter or any artwork or creativity in any respect are available for three times the fee? i might rather do craft initiatives bare than slaughter information papers to make grotesque pinatas.

Glue and water work the best with cut up strips of newspaper over wire or a blown up balloon. I have heard of using flour and water but that just sounds gross. I know from personal experience the glue and water mixed is the best solution. Just keep stirring the concoction. The glue tends to settle on the bottom of the container.

In cheap form it is a lot of newspapers cut in skinny strips then soaked in a homemade runny paste made with flour and water ...some pour some white glue in too. But if you want a good substance, go to a medical supply store and ask for cast strips and use them. Great stuff and can make professional type masks etc and I find much less messy

If i remember right, you put that white elmers glue in water and mix it up really good. Then put paper strips in the water. Then you put the wet sticky strips of paper on your object like a ballon. Let it dry so its nice and hard, then pop the balloon and paint it. (thats how i made a mask in 2nd grade) You can also make more intricate designs with something like a wire frame.

You can pour glue and a little water into a bowl and dip it in the bowl or if you don't have glue, flour works just as well.
