I was born on October 19, 1958. So the 1970s for me was from the age of 11 going on 12 to 21 going on 22.
The music was fantastic, although today I think some "disco" was cool, at the time I thought it was going to be the end of rock 'n roll - "Death to Disco!" and "Disco Sucks!" Major concert tickets were usually under $10 and a movie was $2.50. Gas did jump from 30 cents to 50 cent than by 1980 a $1.00 a gallon.
The clothes and platform shoes I can most defintely live without (what the hell were we thinking!). Tube tops, wide, wide lapels, wide, wide (and ugly) ties, plaid pants and dress jackets (oh my God), puka shell necklaces (everyone had one), mood rings, Pet Rocks!, the list goes on... Black light posters, incense, and an ounce of Columbian pot was $30! Don't forget the dawning of Boone's Farm Wine.
Back then sex couldn't kill ya, at worst then was herpes.
The Republicans were screwing things up then, too, but along came Jimmy Carter - and guess what? Things got worse!
"Party" was no longer just a noun - it became a verb! Cocaine was considered "harmless." After all our parents were killing themselves with booze and cigarettes - we're gonna kill ourselves in a whole, new way!
Although I'd love to have my old cars - 1969 Chevelle 396 SS and then a Chevelle Laguna Type S-3 with swivel buckets seat and a 350 small block.
I spent 3 years in the Army 76-79 and I smoked pot and drank beer every day once I was assigned to permanent duty in a hospital (believe it or not the term the Army used was "permanent party!" - it was). The hospital where I worked was a combination of MASH and Animal House - two other great 70s icons.
Explaining the 70's to someone who was too young or not alive is next to impossible. It was a great time (what I remember, anyway). But I barely made it out alive.

Yes, I would go back to the 70's except for the tragic Vietnam War and the very low pay for females.
People enjoyed more freedoms. Jobs were plentiful. Drugs were no worse then than they are today. The music was legendary. It was a time of great literature, plays, and an explosion in the arts. The fashion was kooky, but some of the styles returned like low riders, bell bottoms, short skirts, and shoe/boot styles. Before 1973, gasoline and energy costs were cheap by today's standards. People were more religious, and parents disciplined their kids.
During the 70's people cared about making the world a better place. People were more honest about their goals and feelings. There were great strides in education; technology, especially the introduction of computers; integration; civil rights; and women's rights. Students were proud to have a college education instead of treating it as a birthright.
Beam me back, Scotty!

I would prefer to go back to the early 80s myself when the women were women and so were the men. The music and fashion was fantastic in the 80s. The new romantic era bands like Soft cell, Human league, Duran Duran, Spandu Ballet, Oh happy memories. Even the cars of the 80s were great. The Vauxhall Cavalier, Ford Capri, Ford Cortina Fantastic. They just don't make cars like that now. If I had my way I would have everything exactly the same today as it was in the early 80s.

Oh yes, the 70s were the happy times for me. Had my own flat, good job, great friends, I loved the clothes, I still have some that I kept and my daughter now wears them with pride, telling every one that these are the real thing not a remake for today's gear. The music was excellent too, and it was safe to walk home after a night out.

Not me. Strikes, rampant inflation, rising unemployment, the UK was an international laughing stock. In 1976, we had to borrow $1billion from the World Bank just to keep public services afloat. But, excellent music, superb films and television that spanks anything that comes on today(I Claudius, Reggie Perrin, The Sweeney). Just a shame everything else was so crap.

I lived through the 70's, did you? I was a kid then & had to wear some really hideous clothes as I wasn't old enough to buy my own things. Would I like to turn the back to then? NAH...mind you, the 1960's maybe.

Yes...people were not as aggressively violent and a little more respectful to each other. Its not that violence didn't happen but it just seems like it was less likely that people would demand that you respect them by use of physical threats.
