Don't worry. The date of how far along in your pregnancy is usually calculated using the first day of your last period. If your periods run long, or you ovulate later in the cycle than 14 days after the first day of bleeding, then their dates will be off. So technically, the day you are _due_ for your period, by their dates, you would be 4 weeks pregnant, but see my example to follow why this might not be true:
For example, my last period started on 2/21, which means that I should have been due, in theory, tomorrow, which according to the doctors would make me 3 weeks 6 days pregnant. I, however, have exceptionally long cycles and my body only released an egg yesterday. That means that if I were to conceive, I actually would be considered 2 weeks 1 day pregnant - because those first 2 weeks are free.
By this figuring, you're always considered 2 weeks pregnant until you have your period, even if you're not, because they figure their dates from that last period.
Now, taking that into consideration, the baby develops at a set rate, and for the first trimester (especially the first 6-8 weeks after *ovulation* and *conception*) it is usually pretty easy to determine accurate dates. That means that if you ovulated later than day 14, then you're not really 6 weeks 5 days pregnant, you could be 5 weeks 5 days pregnant, in which case you wouldn't see anything but a yolk sac, and then possibly even not a heartbeat yet.
So, don't worry until you get your next ultrasound! Good luck!

i had an ultrasound at 5 wks and only saw a lil dot of a sac. don't fret just yet. you might be not as far along as you think you are. right now i'm preg too. went for a ultrasound on the 1st thinking i was over 9 wks but when the doc did the scan he said i was only 7 wks. you're not doing yourself any good by worrying. just relax and let the baby grow. good luck!!

I had my first ultrasound at 19 weeks! I think 6 weeks is way too early to be having an ultrasound. It is no wonder you can't see the baby yet. Don't stress ok? I would go back and have an ultrasound at atleast 12 weeks.

6 weeks and 5 days is a little early. You often don't see anything else at 5 weeks but with modern ultrasound equipment you can see a heart beat quite early now.
I think your doctor wants to give it a little time and then look again to see if there is a heart beat.
This is a common phenomenon, especially when the dates are wrong.

At about 6 weeks with my daughter, the first ultrasound just looked like a little coffee bean, a dark area with nothing inside. Don't worry. Your doctor doesn't sound very supportive. Surely he could have given you better information than he did.

you're only almost 7 wks. some people don't see a heartbeat until 9-10 wks. Don't worry to much. I know it's much easier to be said than done. But really nothing you can do about it now. I have friend who didn't see a heartbeat until wk 13 and she went on and had a healthy baby boy. I wish yo the best.

You may not be as far along as you think you are and that may be the problem. I had this happen to 2 friend last year, they now both have 2 baby girls. :) g/l
