There's no need to put them on the Moon. Currently, fairly small scopes are used to spot asteroids so if you want more sensitivity, use a bigger scope. This decreases the amount of sky that can be seen in one view which means more views which means more cost. If we can't get the government to put up the money to use higher powered scopes, I don't think they would go for the cost of putting them on the Moon. Impact events are so rare that using the Earth as a launch point makes sense. Immiment destruction will free up the purse strings !

Actually it would probably be unnecessary.
Anything we need to hit could be hit by a rocket launched from Earth (and destroying the rock coming for you might not be the best idea anyway, moving it out of the way might be better).

Yes it would !! very interesting question !
we would be able to see far out into farther distances .
We are actually quite protected from jupiter!
because of it's heavy / strong gravitational pull .
The huge gravitational pull of Jupiter accelerated these asteroids to more than three miles per second -- too fast to prevent violent collisions.
if it were not for the giant planet Jupiter exerting its gravitational force on the asteroids in the belt, the inner planets would be constantly bombarded by large asteroids. The presence of Jupiter actually protects Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars from repeated asteroid collisions.
interesting search on google for more info

The space aliens for one thing will not allow us to leave earths orbit.we haven't since 1972,
But they have the power to do that and protect earth but want .were there breeders for children they take for slaves and were over populating so we will be allowed to kill our self's out some, before we completely kill all of Gods creatures and this once pristine world with pollution.
I hope that answered your question properly.NO?
Ok.we or not allowed on the moon again, sorry
we will never be allowed to leave earths orbit

We can do the same thing here on Earth, for much cheaper. There's no inherent advantage to doing it on the moon that I can think of.

It doesn't matter, because the gov't wond fund observatories to track asteroids anyway. In summation: we're screwed.

great idea......we can spend billions of dollars to build it up there....& never get to use it...
How about when the meteor comes we just launch a cheap rocket from Earth instead.......
