First of all, I am being completely sincere here. Sometimes you'll get answer you are not sure of and I want to assure you that I am not trying to be sarcastic or glib in any way.

Everybody has bad thoughts. I don't mean most of us, and I don't mean everybody on the web, I mean everybody. If someone tells you that they never have bad thoughts, they are either being less than truthful with you or themselves. It's what you do with those thoughts that matters. You have a choice. You can act on them, forget them, let them drag you down with guilt, or act against them.

If you act on them, you are giving in to the small part of you that wants to get even with the world. Call it your id, call it your inner child, call it the dark side of the force, or even better - don't call it. This is the voice you must not only ignore, but learn to work against.

If you forget or ignore those thoughts, which you sometimes can do, it's alright That means that they didn't have any power over you in the first place. It also means that you recognize the difference between positive and negative thoughts and can put the negative ones aside.

If you let them drag you down with guilt, then although they didn't get you to do anything to anyone else, they got to you. You owe it to yourself and those you truly care about, not to let this happen. You have a purpose in life and sometimes you are going to work against that purpose. Those thoughts are one way to undermine your efforts.

If you work against those thoughts, you can actually defeat them. Every time you want to get even, do something incredibly nice. Every time you think about hating someone, do something loving. Keep in mind that it's the action that matters, not the thought. You know people like this in your life and up until now they confused you. As you begin to go down this path, you will start to understand. It isn't that you need to do good for others, rather you need to do good for yourself.

Above all, no matter what you do, forgive yourself immediately for anything you think. It isn't worth carrying the burden of guilt even one step. If you believe in GOD, then give it to GOD. I don't mean that you should just ask for forgiveness here. I mean that you literally give that burden to GOD. If you have some other spiritual mentor, substitute that mentor for the word GOD and carry on. There is more than enough to do in life, and we don't need to heap coals upon ourselves just to prove that we can feel pain.

Next time you get a mean thought don't blame yourself, blame the thought. Drive the thought out of your head. You don't have time for it, room for it, and it doesn't make your life any better or bring you joy. Therefore it is excrement and you are better off putting it where you put the rest of the refuse that comes out of your body. (I hope I put that delicately enough)

Work on the four steps as you gather strength and share this with others as you begin to notice that it is working for you. I hope this helps. You are doing the right thing by talking about it. If you keep this to yourself it will work against you.

Don't feel horrible, it happens to me, too! I'm glad you are writing this: sometimes, when people tell me, what a nice person I am , I think, if you'd only knew, no I am not nice at all!!!
But remember, when it comes down to it: the thoughts are in your head, your privacy, as long as you are not acting them out, you do NOT mean them! Just like thinking to steal something and actually doing it are two different things! I guess that is actually the key between a mean and a kind person!

Sometimes when I have bad thoughts, I pray. When I do that they go away. Other times I just try to think about, or do, something different. Works every time.

Underlying resentments and anger issues that hasn't ever been rectified. Perhaps it's time to see a professional and tell him this same question and see if meds will take away your evils.
