There is an excersize called Keegle(sp?). You tighten up like you are trying to not wet yourself. Is the best way to explain it. You can do this anytime. You tighten and relax and keep repeating. This helps tighten and strengthen your cervix and muscles. Walking while you are in labor is supposed to make it go quicker. Nature will take it's course. Walking to try and start labor is supposed to help. I am on my fifth pregnancy and there really is a way to to have a quicker labor. They come out when they want. I was in labor for three days with my first son. I walked and walked. My third son did not want to come out after trying to come out starting at 28 wks. I walked twice a day at the park. We went four wheeling which everyone around here says induces labor. I tried teas that an indian friend told me about. They had to induced me at 42 wks. Then he was out in ten minutes. I recommend as long a labor as possible from my experience. My first son was the least painful. No epideralls. The doctor said it was where my body had time to slowly stretch. Where as my third (10 min). There was no time for an epideral. I would have done anything to go back to my first. I thought I was going to die. Do not mean to scare you. But I believe in the truth. Everyone told me oh you won't feel it knowing you are having a miracle. The excercises you are doing are great to stengthen your muscles for pushing. That is the part you want to be fast. So keep doing them. And try The keegle excercises. Your doctor should have a information pamhlet on it. A great website is
http://www.babycenter.com
It has excersises, health tips, and you can sign up for weekly updates to show what your baby is doing, and what you can do. You can go up weeks to find out what is happening next. Lots of great tips. Good luck.

It's not that those exercises will make labor go any quicker but more so that the labor will be less intense if you are in shape. Keeping those muscles limber and stretched will help during delivery and make a quicker recovery. Those mom who haven't done anything physical before pregnancy or during pregnancy start using all sorts of muscles they didn't even know they had during labor and delivery so it's more painful.

Keep doing the exercises you are doing and if you want to add more to the regime, you can check out babycenter sites and pull up exercises that are safe to do while pregnant.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Being flexible and physically fit in general will make delivery less painful, don't gain too much weight but gain enough, doing kegels i hear is also good both pre baby and post. You don't want labor to be too quick, nature will take course if it's too fast, you'll tear.

Try prenatal yoga. I did it for my whole pregnancy and though I haven't given birth yet I feel like I'm physically and emotionally ready to (2 wks till my due date). Everyone I know who's tried it says it really helps though.

Also (this is kind of gross) try massaging your vaginal area and do kegal exercises to prep it for giving birth. It helps strengthen the area so it doesn't tear during delivery.

She's right. Walking will really help and Kegels. I would also suggest a birthing chair birth because gravity helps the baby lower itself and it positions you to push down better.

Women who go through Hypnobirthing classes have faster labors. go to http://www.yourchildrennaturally.com there are some article there about it.
My first labor was 15 hours and my second with hypno birthing practices was 5 hours.
It's not hypnotism - it's about relaxation and conditioning your brain and body for birthing
