Women typically ovulate 14 days before the start of their next period. If you have a 31 day cycle this would be day 17 (with day 1 being the first day of your period), if you have a 28 day cycle it would be day 14, etc.. Sperm can live up to 5 days so sex 5 days before ovulation can result in a pregnancy. The egg is only good for about 24 hours so you want to try starting 5 days before you ovulate up until the day after ovulation.

I read that if you have sex during your fertile times you have about a 25% chance of conceiving. The average women gets pregnant after 3 or 4months of trying. Luckily for me I got pregnant the first time I tried by using this timing method.

Ovulation takes place between ten and sixteen days before menstruation. Day one of your cycle is the first day of real bleeding-not spotting. That means, if you have a 28 day cycle, you'll ovulate between day 12 and day 18. If you've got a 31 day cycle, you ovulate between day 15 and day 21.

You can figure out when your fertile days are by using ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) which are available in most drugstores with the pregnancy tests. These work by looking for a rise in a particular hormone (LH) that happens 24-48 hours before ovulation. You can also chart your cycles. You use a special thermometer (a basal body thermometer) to measure your temperature first thing in the morning, at the same time each day, as soon as you wake up, before you sit up or get out of bed or anything else. You'll see a rise in your temperature just after you ovulate. You also monitor other fertility signs-the position and texture of your cervix (it becomes soft, and open, and moves higher in the vagina when you're ovulating) and changes in your cervical mucous (the fertile cervical mucous looks and behaves like egg white-it becomes clear, and stretchy.) You can learn more about fertility signs from the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility or the website fertilityfriend.com.

Most women have about a 25% chance at getting pregnant during any given cycle. Getting pregnant is a lot harder than most people imagine! There's no guarantees when it comes to fertility.

Yes, you are much more likely to conceive if you have intercourse during your fertile phase (as defined by the presence of fertile cervical fluid near ovulation) than if you have intercourse during your infertile phase (either preovulatory or postovulatory). This is why NFP can be so successfully used to AVOID pregnancy as it can to acheive it.

Prior to ovulation, most women have a few days of fertile cervical fluid (building from sticky to creamy to egg white like). Some women have more days and some less. Some women have lots of CF and some very little. Timing intercourse to YOUR fertile CF is VERY important for conception as the fertile CF nourishes the sperm until the egg is released. Once the egg is released, the fertile CF dries up pretty quickly. Your best chance to get pregnant is usually from intercourse w/ EWCF before ovulation.

Other factors can strongly influence fertility though. You should definitely give charting your fertility signs a try to learn as much about your cycles and what might delay conception for you. Many issues w/ the cyles can cause delay of conception or carrying a pregnancy and many can be detected and resolved at home.

Check out the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler (available at Amazon). It explains everything very clearly and will help you figure out when your fertility window is each month. It depends on factors like the length of your cycle (which obviously varies among women).

You usually ovulate around the 14th day of your cycle (day 1 of your cycle is the day you start your period). If you have intercourse the days around the 14th, these are usually your most fertile days, that is if you have a normal cycle.
