Would you name your child this?

Question

I love the name Elli. My mother's middle name is Mae and I've always been so close to my mother and I want to honor her by having my babies middle name be Mae as well. The problem is Elli Mae I just recently found out was a character from the The Beverly Hillbillies. I don't know what to do b/c I really love that name..and I hate the fact that I should maybe change it b/c of what others might think.. any suggestions?

I like the name Elli, I thought and researched this and what about the name "Elliana", it's meaning is "The lord has responded" which I think of the lord bringing you your gift, the baby, you can always call her Elli for short. I think that Elliana Mae just sounds so nice together. It is a name for when they are young for her to grow into a adult. Hope you like!!

It's a very common thing to name babies after characters from books and, or Tv shows, which you in this case are not. In your case the two names you like most in the world just so happen to be the same name as a character in an old TV show. Will it help if I tell you that Elli Mae was tough, lady-like and vicacious? Please do not worry what others are going to think that will only ruin your desires; besides, Elli Mae is lovely and cute all rolled into one. Don't you think so?

Sorry, the first thing that came to mind was the beverly hillbillies when I heard it. I like the name Elli, too. (It's my aunt's name). What about using your mother's first name as her middle name. No matter what it is, it'd be better than naming her Elli Mae. Don't change the first name to Elle or Ella or anything because it still sounds like Elli and will get the same comments from people. What about Elli Marie as another option. It's your mother's name with "ri" in the middle and doesn't have a beverly hillbillies ring to it? She'd have your mother's middle name and her own name in one. Good luck! Hope this helped! :)

It's a cute name. The Beverly Hillbillies had its day, but it really doesn't hold much sway over popular American culture anymore. I think your baby is safe.

Besides, it's possible that her name will be shortened. She could keep Elli Mae or choose to take Elli or Mae in her adult life. Any of those names sound good to me.

I absolutly LOVE the name Ellie! and Ellie Mae sounds very cute together!!... By the time your child is older no one will even know what the Beverly Hillbillies are.. I didn't know it was from there!! It's a beautiful name, and if you love it, who cares what others think!!

Well, I don't see why the association with Ellie May on Hillbillies should bother you as they don't spell it the way you're proposing, Elli Mae. Your version is very nice! You could do Ella Mae too! Good luck!

I think it is awesome you are honoring your mother...instead of just Elli Mae you could put a name in between Elli and Mae

If this is the name you really like, then go for it, but I'd try something a little different. I love the name Ellie too. My sister's youngest girl is named Eleanor but we call her Ellie or Ella for short. You could try a longer version of the first name. I have a friend from high school who named her little girl Elliana and calls her Elli for short. So, your daughter could quite possibly be Elliana Mae or something like this and just call her Elli for short. Good luck

Well...you wouldn't be calling her Elli Mae, like they did the character. Most people would just call her Elli.

the only one you will need to care about is your child. i like elli mae even if it is from the beverly hillbillies. i love the middle name mae. my daughters is the same.
