i guess having a routine means stability in some way...also it could mean u know wat u have to do and when to do it without having to wonder bout even the little things...most times its an obssessive compulsive sorta thing and when ppl have routines they hate changes to it cause well they lose balance and have to rearrange their entire life so to say.... i know this cause im a routine kinda person totally !!! and hate if anythin upsets it !

People who require routines do so because they know what is going to happen next thus feel in control. If excessive, this is possibly a person who was controlled excessively in childhood. They do not have the confidence to handle things on their own. If you have the opportunity, try to find a lesson somewhere on personality "colors". The routine person is a definate gold (me too) and they hate surprises because it makes them feel inadequate. Greatest little detail person you ever met though. Dots ever I and crosses every T.
The other colors are blue (compassionate but cool), orange (fun loving and full of surprises) and green (emotionally charged)
Most people are a combination of at least two and often three. Try it some time...its fun to do and amazingly accurate. The good part is by learning to identify a persons "color", you also can learn the best way to communicate with them so they understand.

There are certain things in life which must be done & having a routine helps get them done. I do best with a routine; otherwise I can't stay focused & never seem to get much done.
That doesn't mean that a routine can't be changed. Ask me to go to an antique shop with you and I'm off....I know that's not exciting but hey, I'm 61. When I was younger I always gave up my routine if something fun came up.....but I tried to stick to it when I could.
If you have a routine in the morning getting ready for work then you already know how helpful one is.

Isn't it really about control for them? I think so. They want to control every aspect of their lives, they want to know what is happening and when. In this world we have such little control over things people try to get it where they can, it gives them the feeling they are in control.
Personally I hate routine, but I came from a family that my step dad wanted to control everypart of everyone's day. I still cringe when someone says something like 'well back to the old routine" because at the end of any vacation or weekend he always said that .... he had a routine of what to say when getting back to his schedule.... To me that was crazy..

Because those people are boring and have boring lives. You, on the other hand, know how to live life. Mee too. The only routine I have is going to work and going to the gym. And I enjoy those

Hm... because it's comforting? Surprises can be negative and they can't handle that for whatever reason? They enjoy boring lives? Who knows...
I have a handicapped aunt around 60 years old - she eats and does the EXACT SAME THING every single day of her life (my grandmother - her mother - takes care of her). She has a child-like way of thinking so routine works for her because she can understand.

I agree...I am the same and I think that they are as stuck to it as we are to spontanaety. I've tried routine and it was completely boring it drove me nuts...so the opposite is probably true for them. Being that..they would feel completely out of control and aren't comfortable with it.

Mass conditioning, from your feedings as a baby, your school routine then the workplace the marriage...all institutional but safe, secure, predictable. They like living in boxes.

Having routines help people get all they have to do done in a day without jumping around from thing to thing with no forethought and accomplishing nothing.
