I took two tests at home that were positive before going to my doctor where we took a third that was also positive. He sent me to do an ultrasound that did not show anything. Meanwhile my breasts hurt like crazy. He said that since my periods are irregular we cannot be 100% sure of a conception date, so it may be too early to do the ultrasound. He told me to wait for another 2 - 3 weeks and then go do another one.

I suggest you relax and take care of yourself in the interim. Yes it may be a blighted ovum or miscarriage, but try to be positive and go back in a few weeks if you only recently missed your period.

If the first test was positive, there was no need for the other 5. A positive test means there was an implantation of a fertilized egg.
If there was nothing on the ultrasound, you are either less than 5 weeks (too early to tell) or you had a blighted ovum (a fertilized egg which didn't make it).
By 5 weeks they can see a yolk sac. It is still too early to tell whether the pregnancy is viable or not.
If you are more than 5 weeks since the first day of your last period and they really saw NOTHING, then you are no longer pregnant. You had a positive test because it implanted, but then failed to survive. You could consider it to be a very early miscarriage. You will probably bleed like a heavy period, and that will be it.
You should go and see your doctor or midwife, though, to be sure.

You could have an ectopic pregnancy, or the beginnings of one that didnt actually develop into a baby. That happened to my friend - positive test, morning sickness, etc. Ultrasound at 7 weeks showed no baby. It ended up to be just a mass of cells in her fallopian tube.

It's possible you had an incomplete miscarriage and your body did not dispose of it but just absorbed the fetus instead so to speak. I had positive pregnancy test and my uterus was empty. The hormone was still in my blood though.

An ultrasound is usually correct in showing if a person is pregnant or not.

so you had a positive pg test and an ultrasound?? if nothing showed on the us, then i would say it's possibly ectopic pg or just false positives. check with your ob, they should be able to answer this for you.

Depends on how long it's been since your missed period. If it's only been a month, it might just be stress. But if it's been two months or more, it could be a serious problem. I would reschedule a appointment with a gyno, and tell her/him your symptoms and see what's going on.
