What would their reasons be for being friendly to us?

Let's also consider what it takes to become a Super advanced civilization. I would think that in order to become so advanced, a civilization would not be able to tolerate all the freedoms we tolerate here on earth, because it would simply be counter-productive and a waste of resources.

I would think that a Super advanced civilization would probably function similar to how Hitler ran Nazi Germany, where emotions were set aside and everything was based on efficiency and advancement. They didn't allow for people to hang around not working or for handicapped people to take up time and resources etc. Anyone being unproductive would be eliminated and so on...

So I'm thinking a super-advanced civilization would probably not be very friendly and patient with us freedom-loving humans.

What do you guys think?

The only experiece we have ever had with aliens is with television. We have no way of knowing how a civilization would grow outside of our own. Something as small as having eight fingers could change how fast we can become advanced. We use base ten with most of our mathematics because of our ten fingers, but maybe a civilization with a base 8 would figure things out diffrently. The point is we don't know.
Logically, it would make sense to weed out the weak. That's how it works in nature. But in nature the beings don't have the capacity to learn as we do. In order for a civilization to form they need to be able to learn and create. It's a pretty basic characteristic. But I think when it reaches the point of survival of the fitest, there is a chance of rebellion and sympathy. You can supress emotion, but you cannot remove it (again in our species anyway). The weak could become a force large enough to cause a break in efficiency and the dynamics of an advanced civilization. I guess my point is, a civilization more advanced than us would have figured this out, and would most likely be peaceful creatures. They probably would look at us a bit ******** at first with our weird ways and lives. I think MOST aliens would be of a peaceful sort.

Super advanced aliens would surely be friendly to us earthlings. What would they gain by hostilities anyway? If they were to invade us...we will use nukes and that would be the end of this planet, them and us. And let's not forget that any civilization not based on freedom has never lived long enough- Hitler, former Soviet Union etc are some examples. To develop into a super advanced civilization, aliens would also need freedom to come up with super science and ultra super technology. I do believe that aliens are visiting us anyway and conducting experiments on this earth and its various elements. Some have also had what is called "close encounters' with humans, possibly to reveal their existence in some manner that doesnt scare us. To reach Planet Earth itself would need really advanced technology and if they wanted to invade us, they would have already done so.

Your right. They would look down on us. Best scenario, we wont be a food source. Slaves more than likely. But unlike human slavery , we probably wouldnt overcome it.

I dont believe that we are the only life there is. But, if they have only had as much time as us to advance, we`ll never know.

It would be nice for them to come just to end religious fighting. Only an alien encounter would bring mankind together as one. I believe god was here and said he would return. He could still be eternall, this is not blasphemy. He would still be a living god. Thats the key, living.

The bible says Elisha was taken up to heaven on a flaming chariot, he was taken. Mankind is so far removed from animals, something changed us.

The bible also says "the sons of god saw the daughters of man to be fair, and lay with them" , i believe we are the breeding of this.

I`m not religious, im open minded. We have made a big mess of things. We need a visit.

I could only think of a few reasons why they would be "friendly" to us:
1. maybe we would be their "food"
2. we would be their slaves
3 they need our planet and are helping us already destroy ourselves so it would be easier to take it over
4. scratch number 3 because if they are watching us, they would've stepped in before we started the time clock on the destruction of the earth with the global warming.
5. our sole purpose on earth--- and don't laugh because I truly believe in this.....is that we are just a "game" to an advanced civilization-- say they were here or watching since day #1 on earth. Each species of man was given certain advances to see how they can cope--pyramids, stonehedge, all the unanswerable mysteries in our world today can be remnants of their presence. Just as we would "teach a baby to an adult" everything about life it would need to survive, maybe that is what they are doing with us. And on that note, just as a parent would know when a child has a mental defect and cannot comprehend or become an independent adult, so have they realized that we are beyond advancement due to our insatiable greed, need for personal power, and inability to sustain living with others who are different than us.

I don't think a super advanced civilization, alien or otherwise, would bear any relation to the warped system set up by Hitler and the Nazis.
However, I do think a super advanced alien civilization would probably treat us about the same way as we treat those we consider to be less intelligent than us, and less human than us. For example, the way we treat chickens, or cows, or bugs.

Or that alien race could have a 'hive mind' When bees set out to find a new place to hive, they're trying to expand, right?

If such a race came here, they would be looking for resources useful to them. If they need salt water, we might have a problem on our hands. If not, they may see that we're using the resources now, and find a better place. An attack so that they could settle would be ineffecient. There are six billion of us after all. Even if it would be easy for them to get rid of us, they should reason that we would consume or destroy (nuke) our resources before we give them up.

I don't think they'd destroy us and try to take what we have as someone else suggested, because if they're so advanced, what we have will look like the stone age to them, so they wouldn't want anything we have.

It really would depend if they understood compassion. It is possible that they could be super advanced and still be compassionate, in which case they'd probably be viewed as some kind of Gods by many of us.

Or, they may simply try to enslave us if it would serve some type of purpose for them. I think that's unlikely though, because that's a rather primitive tactic.

The more advanced a civilisation, the more freedom and emocracy it has. Until now, the most advanced civilisations were ancient Greek, who created democracy, and the western civilisation that was based on the ancient Greek principles and values. The less advanced civilisations have superstitions, fears, etc, and therefore the individual has no freedoms. A very advanced alien civilisation would be friendly anyway, because they would have no fear of us.

In order for a Super advanced civilization to have contact with us, they would likely have to put out the major part of the communication effort, given our early stage of interplanetary communication. Thus they would be technologically advanced (or advanced in some other means of communication if not technology based).

For me, I think that in order for civilization and life to survive long term, there must be more cooperation than destructiveness.

So it seems (to me) that the hypothetical super advanced civilization would have been around for a very long time. They would have had to deal with their own phases of conflict, war and territorialism, and unthinking pollution and the like. So if they survived those stages in order to get to the super advanced state, I am thinking that they would have had to embrace cooperation more than destruction. And given that the hypothesis is that they have successfully reached the advanced state, it is also reasonable to assume that their knowledge and intelligence, their wisdom (not same as knowledge), their social systems, and also their ethical (and spiritual if you will) systems would have advanced to a significant level too. (Besides just the advanced technology to be calling in to visit us ;-)

In short, they would have grown to see that life is inter-dependent on its elements, and would have found ways to work with the systems of life in harmony.

Thus I believe such a super advanced civilization would be, basically, friendly.

And if they chose to contact and reveal themselves to us, it would be on the basis of mature civilized cooperation and exploration.

The next question is, are we up to it, ready for that kind of contact?

I think they would be like ants or bees only huge. Did you ever see Starship Troopers? Like that only smarter. If you think about it honeybees build that hive and produce honey. Not sure if humans can produce it artificially or if we did it would taste as good. For an animal that has virtually no brain compared to a human I'd say that's pretty advanced. So they'd have like a queen, the drones, workers, etc. I don't think they would be sadistic or immoral but would be amoral or not kind and compassionate.
