Heyyy I'm in exactly the same situation as you! Haha cool. Yes, the lady at my clinic said wait a week. But since this is my first time going on birth control, I am going to wait a month. You should too. That way you can make sure that this is the correct method of birth control for you.

Oh and if you start breaking out and getting mood swings and even gain weight, blame the pill. I have been on it for 2 weeks and I got all these things.

Yes the best thing is to wait a month. By then, the pill will definetely be working. Three months? No, they are telling you to wait 3 months to make sure you like this method of birth control, and having time to get used to it. But it is not necessary.

If you two are having trouble with condoms, tell him you're not having sex for a month. If he frets, ask him if he'd like to be a daddy.

You guys can do other things untl then. And since I'm sure he's a good boyfriend already he'll understand.

good luck!

You are protected after a week on the pills. What is going to happen is that it will take three months to see how your body is going to react to the new medication and hormones. Since this is your first time taking the pills, you may experience some break through bleeding. Give yourself a good 3 months to try out the pills, and if the bleeding continues, then talk with your Dr.

You are still protected after 7 days. There will be no need for a backup method, unless you miss a dose, then talk with your Dr or pharmacist on what to do.

I'm not exactly clear on what you're asking if your protected from, pregnancy or STD's? ~ So please forgive with me if I answer more than you asked. If your doctor prescribed a "birth control" pill for you and said that you were "safe" after 7 days, the doctor means the pill is effective enough to stop your ovulation cycle and you're "safe" from becoming pregnant. Please do not confuse this with being safe from STD's. Nothing but complete abstinence will protect you from becoming infected with an STD ~ but if you feel being sexually active with your boyfriend is important enough to risk that ~ continuing to use condoms while also on the birth control pill is a smart step on your part.

Please be careful ~ even though both you and your boyfriend's recent tests for STD's came back negative, remember that it only takes one time of having sexual relations with someone that is infected to catch whatever they have. You know what you're doing ~ can you completely trust your boyfriend? I have several years experience on you and am only saying this to be helpful and don't mean to hurt in any way ~ having said that, please think carefully and be aware that most 17 year old young men (and most often into their 20's and even beyond) have very strong sexual appetites and don't always make the best decisions "in the heat of the moment."

Best thing you can do for yourself ~ is continue using your head ~ even when your hearts involved. Good for you!!!!

Yeah it does only take 7 days before it kick's in. Birth control is 99% effective so it is very rare that u would get pregnant. If u and your guy are strictly monogamous i dont see why you still have to use condoms and whats the point if they keep breaking. Make sure you have your pap smears when they are due.

yea the doctor is right, im on the shot. and it takes 7 days to *kick in* no birth control is 100% effective but the whole purpose of it is to help right? but dont completely rely on it, use a condom...and if not then at least have the guy pull out wen u have sex..

A week is long enough for most of the pills available now. If you want to be safe, use a backup method for 1 cycle. FYI- I had a "pill baby"- what a shocker that was.

First of all birth control pills aren't has safe as you think and second many woman each year get pregnant on it so don't stop using a condom just because you think your safe if condoms keep breaking on him try a women condom or other methods as well as birth control pills.Good luck and don't be fooled

u have to take 7 active pills. not the placebo ones before u are protected but that means the 7 pills u take at the end of your period.

I'd guess that a doctor probably knows what he is talking about. He did go to medical school and he does do what he does for a living.

ok. you were both checked for std's. did they draw blood from you or did they swab your mouth to clear you of hiv? be careful many clinics do not check for hiv routinely. plus, it would take more than one test for hiv to be certain. so, that is why i am reluctant to believe that you were cleared of all std's. also, hepatitis b is transmitted sexually, did they check you for that?
