It never actually says in the song "night moves" but since Bob Seger is a big fan of Motown and R&B in general, my guess it would be something from them.

it was rumored that it was a gladys knight and the pips song although it just wasn't sucessful enough to mention in the song he couldn't do gladys part in falsetto for some reason
