I've come to tolerate this. When I have someone tell me that I can't do something, I do it just out of spite. Then, I can rub it in their face and they will never live it down. It's my favorite thing to do. :P

Not always. Sometimes they are speaking from experience. In other words, they have been there and done that (or attempted that).
