I would say newborn, as over the first 3 months I can imagine baby'll grow quite a bit, so at present 3 months size would be too big for baby.

My baby girl was 7lbs and 11oz, and 19.5 inches long. A lot of her clothes did, and still do come from walmart since, we don't have many options when it comes to buying baby, or any clothes in the small place we live in. When she was born, she fit into newborn, which bit big on her.... hard to believe lol... but that did her pretty much for 2 months before she got into the 0-3 month clothes, some of the sleepers and did last a little longer. She's 7.5 months now, and still pretty petite, she grows too long for the clothes, and never gets tight around her waist. she starting to get into the 9 month (which is hard to find here) and some of the smaller 12 month clothes, such as the stretchy pants. you could by a few extra of each, especially the 0-3 months, he'll grow into them and keep some of the newborn with the tags on it, so if some are getting snug you can always return them.

Get the preemie, newborn and 0-3 month sizes. You will need all because manufacturers sizes run differently and after washing, a lot of things will shrink. I found that Gerber sleepers (come in a 3 or 5 pack) were a great investment, easy to put on and take off.
My little one weighed 7lbs 11oz at birth and came home, weighing 7lbs 4oz, in a newborn size outfit that was way too big! She wore mostly preemie size for about 2 weeks and then grew like a weed! In diaper sizes she wore newborn for the first week and then size 1 for a little while longer. Shoes were all too big, she wore doll shoes once when we had to dress her up, otherwise she went barefoot(since it was summer).
Good luck!

I would not but anything newborn size. It would be a waste of money because babbies do not fit in these long...if they fit in them at all. I would start with 3-6 months size. You may want just a couple 0-3 but not all babies can fit in them. My babies weighed 9-9, 9-5, and 8-1. They could never wear 0-3 month size at all.

I would say get a few items in the newborn size, but not too many, becasue they grow soooo fast. I would get a few more things in the 0-3 month size, then go from there. Every baby is so different, it will depend on the baby. My baby was over nine pounds when he was born and still some of the newborn clothes were a bit loose. But that's okay. They grow into them. But don't get too many, and if they don't fit at first, don't forget about them, try them on him/her every couple of weeks. Also, different baby brands do their sizing a little differently, so check for that. Good luck! :)

Buy a few outfits in 0-3 and 3-6 months. Babies will grow very quickly. Some babies that are very tall or weigh over 9 pounds can go right into 3-6 month size.

The clothes that I have bought ( I am 34 weeks and we do not want to know the sex of our child) have been in neutral colors and we have bough a few newborn sizes as well as 0-3months and a few 3-6 months... Every baby, like every pregnancy and every woman is different. It is good to be prepared... The one thing that I have tried to keep in mind is that I would rather have clothes that my baby can grow into instead of barely fit into and outgrow in a week! Best of luck to you!

i had one or 2 newborn outfits and i was freaked bc i felt like i needed more but i had tons of 0-3 month outfits my son only fit into the newborn ones for like a week he was born 8 lbs and they were just too short i would only get like maybe 3 newborn outfits at max bc the 0-3 months ones fit right away and last a little longer then a week not a whole lot longer but a bit longer if you hav a preemie you might need more smaller outfits but no one counts on having a preemie so if that happens send the hubby out or the hospital probably has something it never hurt to roll up the sleeves anyways

Babies grow so fast! My first child was 8lbs 3 oz and most newborn clothes say they work up to 8.5lbs. I only bought 0-3 months for my first and am doing the same with this one. I think newborn clothing is a waste of money unless you have a premie or a very small baby. Like i said they grow so fast!
