My face is really dry and has flakes that look gross when I apply my make up. Moisturizer isn't getting the job done, what are some other things I can put on my face to get rid of them? By the way, exfoliaters don't do jack.

I'm 18.

It's not a horrible condition or anything but it drives me nuts. It's from my acne medication which is like 70% alcohol so it dries my face up.

You need to deeply condition and hydrate your skin with the proper ingredients that will not cause your skin to break out, produce oil, or dry out. Most lotions on the market contain mineral oil, the molecular structure of which is too large to penetrate the pores of your skin. Products that contain mineral just sit on the top layer like saran wrap and cause dirt and debris to collect on your skin. These also give a temporary feeling of softness and have little to no benefit. Check your products to ensure they do not contain harmful ingredients such as alcohol, wax, dyes, chemicals, animal products, acetone, etc. These will irritate and/or dry out your skin. Arbonne has a great day creme, hydrating body lotion, and intelligence moisturizer that are pure, safe, beneficial, and water based so it will actually penetrate your dermis and deeply condition your skin without irritation and dryness. If you're interested in trying a free sample, I'll be happy to send you one.

Depending on how bad it is, you may need to see a dermatologist. But it could be something as simple as you not getting enough water. Your skin could be dehydrated, causing the flakes. Try the moisturizer and the scrub, like others suggested; but also drink more water. The recommended amount is about 2 liters a day. It might take a while for you to actually see the difference.

It's very possible that the flaking when you apply your makeup is BECAUSE of your exfoliator. Lotions with AHA (alpha hdryoxy acids) will cause exfolation of your skin and then application of the foundation will cause it to peel.
Try to use a skin care product made for DRY skin (how old are you, I can recommend something) and an intenisive moisutrizer.
Exfoliators WILL do "jack" if you use the right one. LOL

You should look at what you are using to cleanse your face.
It could be too drying. You may have to try a few things to find out what works best for your skin. Go to the makeup counter and tell them your symptoms. As for several kinds of sample and use for a few days each one.

Good luck. Dry skin is ouchie.

Have you tried St. Ives Apricot Scrub? I have the same problem, but if I use this stuff a few times a week, and moisturize, it helps a lot!!

use a really gentle soap (ie ivory bars) and i'd try more exfoliators that actually work, alot of them just have those llittle newfangled microbeads that don't work, try something more oldschool like st ives apricot scrub that actually has grains
