I am a healthy gal and just heard about the great immune support red algae can provide, and I want to start taking it regularly. Is there anything important I should know? I saw something about a possible thyroid problem?

no I haven't heard any negatives at all. Why don't you try olive leaf?

Firstoff: I want to make it very clear this is NOT a medicine! But (as you already said): a supplement

Algae get a lot of attention these days, it's kinda like the new hype in food... Although scientific results are hard to come by.

Although it's true chlorella (the "magic" component in algae) has some health benefits, according to some scientific articles, that is. It has not yet been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. There's usually little harm in taking supplements though, so it's your own decision. Just keep in mind that it's NOT intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. (although some companies like you to think so)

On the question will red algae help my immune system: the answer is no. Not if your immune system is functioning properly. If it's repressed by chemo, for instance, it could have some effects...

If your still shaky and not sure whether to take it or not: you can always start with a small dosage and see how that works for you.

Just be careful about the amount of iodine your taking in. If you are already eating a bunch of seaweed or taking a kelp supplement maybe only a take a minimal amount. I'm sure you will be fine because we typically do not receive enough iodine and other nutrients in our diet to begin with.
