Why are there a lot of crappy Italian and Spanish players in the EPL but no crappy English players in the Primera Liga or Serie A? Aren't the English players good enough to play away from home?

Isn't it possible that English football (not the league) isn't as good as the English people think it is? I'm American and it is a given that every four years I will so on TV the English people going through a national depression because the national team will fail to do anything significant in the World Cup except not play up to expectations. Has England ever thought that maybe English players just aren't on the level of their Europeans counterparts and that the expectations are too high? It has been 40 years since England won its only World Cup and since never when they won the European Championship, where is all this talk about English players being great coming from?

Because many English players grow up playing a fast pace, physical type game. This style of play does not work in more technical and disciplined leagues. In addition, the English Premier league is the most watched and most popular league in the world (not necessarily the best), so English players stay in England and try to break through.

players like wayne bridge, jonathon woodgate and michael owen were all recently in la liga, beckham will be for a short while longer and owen hargreaves is in germany. but you are right that more mediochre brits are not getting looks on the continent.

mostly, i think it is due to the fact that the english game is a more aggressive and physical style and the latin leagues prefer a more technical, graceful approach to the game. also, the brits are very pale- skinned and burn easily in the subtropical sun. take some small comfort, however, that many of your lesser skilled UK and Irish players have found there way across the pond to lowpaying jobs in mls.

When you play in the Italian Serie or the Spanish La Liga, you dont need power, the pace, and thee tricks r the main things which count, Players like Lampard and Gerrard wont leave, Lampard wont find sucess, and Gerrard, will adjust but he wont leave! Beckham is going to LA so that is a good sign!

not agreed.
instead i think thats because epl is very interesting and fascinating for other players so they come to england. and thats why English players wont leave, because their own league is more appealing to them.
and this is because of the wages, and also the higher stage of games.
