Because it gives us fake extra time to enjoy sunny summer evenings??? Anyway, Benjamin Franklin was the one who came up with this idea and we really aren't "saving" and time, we are just shifting it around. Daylight Saving time will change this year, then the Department of Energy is going to study the effect of the change from the normal Daylight Saving Time and see if there is any need for the new dates for the change....I am wondering just how many tax dollars that is going to cost...
The following site will give you way more information that you probably want to know about Daylight Saving Time but if you are bored.....

there are a couple of good reasons, but mostly it is because in the winter we want the time turned back to make it safer for children going to school in the morning, otherwise it would not be light out untill after they were allready there. Also in the summer we want the clock moved forward so that the sun doesnt wake us up at 4:30 in the morning and will still be up late in the evening to enjoy more.

Moving the clock ahead one hour during the spring, summer and early fall months allows us to enjoy more daylight, while the early risers still get their accustomed daybreak time.

The gay population has no monopoly on this time shift, tho.

We move the clock ahead so that we get more daylight, it's also a great reminder that summer is coming nearer! :D

It also has to do with conserving energy. By setting the clock ahead it's been proven that we are able to conserve more energy.

This was first implemented during First World War as a measure to save energy in the manufacturing plants. When you arrive at work at 8 am the sun will be higher in the sky and exterior temperature higher so your boss (and the whole economy) will save on it's energy bill.

No, actually it's a great thing. It gives us more hours of daylight and saves energy. When you work as many hours as I do it's nice to get home and still have some daylight left.
Beats leaving before daylight and returnning home after dark.

saves electricity if it's lighter later in the day. less electricity being used means less coal burned, which means less carbon in the atmosphere, which means less global warming, which means the glaciers won't melt and the ocean currents won't stop, which means we won't have an ice age anytime soon. whew! I'm so relieved.
