I was wondering if anyone could offer me any other advice beyond the norm of a reduced salt diet, warm foot soaks, Epsom salt soaks, and elevation. I have and am trying/doing all of those things... its just painful and annoying.

Any suggestions, especially of trail and error would greatly be appreciated!

While all of those things already mentioned are good, one odd one that worked for me was actually walking for like 30 mins at a time sometimes resting too much causes pain...other suggestions, drinking black tea and eating things like watermelon and cucumbers which have a natural diuretic effect will help w/ swelling and wear good supportive flat shoes try to avoid high heels and barefeet.

Throbbing Ankles

Lay on your left side while sleeping or watching tv.

Stand 6 to 9 inches from the wall and do a push up. With feet staying flat. If you do not feel a slight pull in your calves go back a few inches. Hold for 30 seconds and do this for 5 to 15 minutes. This also helps back stress and lower foot stress.

Try ankle rotation while sitting. anywhere. Even when your doing the dishes or cooking. Just hold something and raise your foot a little and rotate your ankle. Doing this all day once in a while helps.

pregnancy massage is wonderful. There are great books on it. I got one at Waldon books on clearance for $2.99

I have had throbbing ankles in this pregnancy too - thing is i haven't had any swelling at all - just soreness.

The only thing that brings me relief is having my ankles massaged - i make the daddy-to-be do it every night! LOL and if he isn't around and i really need relief i rotate my ankles around in circles - may sound stupid but for me it works!

Good luck to you - i hope you find some relief!!

I hardly had any swelling of my ankles and it is attributed to the amount of water i drank each day. If you drink 1 quart for every 50lbs of body weight and if you do move around enough to get circulation you will be doing good! If you don't drink enough water your body retains it for use, if you drink enough then you will not retain water because your body knows it will have a continuous supply! And yes, do elevate in the evening.
Oh, also put lemon in your water it helps flush water retention.
You learn all these things when you go to a midwife!

What has worked for me is a maternity belt. Not the 3 inch one either. Mine is like a back brace that supports and lifts the belly. What is happening is that the belly is allowing the blood and water in your system to go down your legs, but it's fighting weight, pressure, gravity...everything to get back up. GL!
