What are the different stages of Anaesthasia?

I.Stage of Analgesia - Starts from begining of of anaesthatic inhalation & lasts upto the loss of consciousness.Pain is progressively abolished during this stage.Patient remains conscious,can hear & see,& feels a dream like state.Reflexes & respiration remain normal.

II.Stage of delirium - From loss of consciousness to begining of regular respiration.No operative procedure is carried out during this stage.

III.Surgical Anaesthasia - Extends from onset of regular respiration to cessation of spontaneous breathing.This has been divided into 4 planes
Plane1 Roving eyeballs.This plane ends when eyes become fixed.
Plane2 Loss of corneal & laryngeal reflexes.
Plane3 Pupil starts dilating & light reflex is lost
Plane4 Intercostal paralysis,shallow abdominal respiration,dilated pupil.

IV. Medullary Paralysis - Cessation of breathing to failure of circulation & death.Pupil is widely dilated,muscles are totally flabby,pulse is thready or imperceptible & BP is very low.
