I got an accurate positive 7 days before my period was due.
If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

good question! theoretically it is not too early to test positive... if you had ovulated already at that time of sex then you would be two weeks pregnant! as long as it was that for timing? the fertilized egg would have implanted about seven days ago and so you would most definitely be able to get a faint reading of some kind...

there is always the possibility you are and just not far enough along... flip side is you might not be at all.... just a suggestion... not something to worry over though, if you have been trying.....

I would say if you are going to test though? try to remember, negative might be due to too early to read due to sensitivity.... or how early you are.... do not get discouraged.... buy tests in two's or threes.... lol.... and wait the two to three days... since if you are? the hormone increases every OTHER day.... link at the bottom here is to a site I found a few months ago.. love it... answeres so many questions about which tests are more sensitive... why/how... has other links for getting pregnant etc... very informative....

thank you for taking the time to read my answer
hope it has helped out
good luck! :)

Too early... I would not waste the money because that is something that is important enough that you don't want to go out and buy a generic one. Ya know?

If you are that worried, seriously, that you may be pregnant I would wait until you are supposed to be starting your period. If you do not start on time I'd say wait 2-5 days and then go to your local Planned Parenthood and ask for a test... The usually accept walk-in's but it may be smart to call ahead and see how busy they are.

Unless it says it can test up to 5 days before a missed period, I would wait. Your results will not be accurate, so I would wait until a couple of days after your missed period. If it is one of the early ones you can test early, but you need to know when your period is due. Just keep in my mind it is not completely unlikely to get a false positive. On the test it should explain HCG levels and you should read that carefully.

Alot of new things out there to detect pregnancy. I suggest seeing a physician if you have questions. Pregnancy tests depending on what you are using and if you are using it correctly can give a false negative, or unclear answer. Bottom line? If you have reservations, seek a physcian. Not all pregnancy test are accurate. A physician can tell you exact confirmation from blood test and a pelvic. It sounds like you want a firm confirmation for pregnancy from your question. I would suggest getting one from a physcian, not a store bought test, that could give you false hope. All the best.

It might be too early but I knew I was pregnant before I had missed my period on two of my pregnancies. I did have a pregnancy test (at the hospital) on one at 2 wks and had a positive test.
I would not use a negative home test at this time to rule out pregnancy. Why no wait a little and see if you have any of the symptoms esp. missed period and swollen breasts.

To correct the last answer, your period doesn't have to be late to pick up the hormone Beta hcg. Wait till you're a few days away from being due, but better still, just so you don't waste a test, wait until your period is two weeks late.

it may not be accurate, but you could try it and if it comes back neg wait a week and do another one. it is best to wait untill about a week after your missed period. Everyone is different it may take longer to show up in some women.... Good luck... hope I helped
