9 years has passed. What should my next steps be in finding out details about my case- prior to getting a lawyer- as I am not living in the same state as where it occurred.

If you haven't noticed identify theft in nine years..... never mind.

Start with getting an attorney.

Identity theft usually involves fraud- for which the SOL are tolled differently. You may be able to get some help- get a lawyer- but look for one who specializes in this area. Don't just look at the phonebook and decide you like the picture advertisement. Ask the office staff if the attorney has taken cases like this before, etc.

Yahoo will not allow me to tell you that I may be able to help. You can email me and I can send you some details.
