Magnesium is not a precious metal, so it is considered a base metal. The price of Magnesium is listed on the London Metal Exchange as a base metal.

They are more abundant in nature and therefore far cheaper than precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. Base metals include aluminum, copper, lead, nickel, tin and zinc.
