But we dont have anything like that in Australia. I mean we have a tax file number and a medicare card for medical costs...but not a single number for everything.

It's similar to what other nations use their National ID Cards for. It's a way to keep things such as taxes, employment history and social security benefits (ex. disability, retirement, etc.) sorted and going to the right people at the right time. In a nation this large, you need some way of tracking all this stuff!

Sometimes names repeat. So the government gives us a specific number so we cant avoid paying taxes and they can differentiate us from someone of the same name in a different state. Uncle Sam and his friends always got to get their money. This just makes sure they do and if they dont they can make your life a living hell.

On everything that the govt deems necessary, yes we use them. The SSN is a series of numbers assigned to each one of us to differentiate us from others. The Natl Govt does not know us all by name, so that is how they keep up with us. There could be thousands of people named James Smith. But each James Smith have a different SSN. May God Bless U.

Us GUYS have to have a SS number in order to have a job and pay taxes....if us GUYS didn't know our numbers off the top of our heads we'd never get to buy anything on credit, get a job, get paid our SS when we're old...
and some of Us GUYS are WOMEN...

social security numbers make it easy for the government to track our spending, and to control our participation in the capitalist machine.
i think that when the bible talks about the mark of the beast, that may have been the prophecy of social security numbers. we all have that mark. you can't get a home, open a bank account, buy a car, or apply for a job without a social security number.
i agree...it's all about government control.
