India is as corrupted as many other Asian countries are. The main reason is that India has been under foreign rule for a very long time and the foreign rulers had to encourage corruption so that they can get support for maintaining their rule.
After India became free in 1947,
instead of foreigners, a section of elite class captured the power and made the Government all pervasive and all powerful. When the Government decides everything about every body and every thing in the country, it gives the best opportunity for the Government people (politicians/ bureaucrats/ government employees) to take bribes from people who want the government to decide in their favour. So here we have citizens who depend on Govt., not Govt. whose existence depends on the citizen ( the ruling party can be changed by electorate but the Govt. will always have all the powers over citizen's life). When you have such powerful Govt. mechanism, corruption is only a natural outcome. Instad of looking up at the Govt. to tackle the problem of corruption, take away all the powers of the Govt except law & order and defence, you will reduce corruption by 90%.
The Chinese are a major power, so is India. The huge population multiplied by the low income will at some point be higher for these countries compared with high per capita income, low population countries. So the population power factor will be strong enough. But it is unlikely that corruption and intererference with the market forces will never allow these countries to acquire the power that is derived from progressively higher levels of efficiency, scientific and technological advancement through research, Greater and more pervasive the power of the Govt. , the gtreater is corruption, the lower is productivity and efficiency, lower is the incentive for excellence in science and technology.
You cannot do anything about these. Wait the failure of this emerging great powers to deliver will bring a great shock to the political processes in these countries in a few decades. Then corruption will find difficult to sustain.

India was never corrupt nor will it be in the near future . It is the System which is corrupt and the people who run it are the ones who are corrupt.Poverty / illiterate cannot and are not the only ones who suffer from this situation each and every individual has to pass through this act of bribing to get things moving in ones favour .Be it a movie theatre or a restaurant or a gas cylinder supplier ,you have to wet their hands to get the best and in time ,I think it is natural for one to feel free and get things done by this method if one can afford ,but you see this pains to all those who cannot afford the same ,which is very true and in fact a wrong doing by the one who can afford.
So all this is nothing but convenience as per each individual and ability to over come this hurdle of corruption,So bear up and do what ever you can do to stop this corruption from your side and you don't be a part of this corruption.Wishing you all the best in your endeavour for corruption free India.

not only India, but all countries[including European Countries] are
corrupt.Perhaps there could be exemptions in some Saudi Arabian countries because of harsh punishments.Otherwise you can feel
it across the globe.Only the ranking varies.India and other heavily populated countries suffer from poverty and so menace is more.
Once Corruption, population and poverty are brought under control
it will be a force to reckon with. Till such time.....hmhmhm, as seen
in your question, why can't you do or suggest something ?

India is corrupt because it has decided to pursue neo-liberal economic policies like what the IMF has suggested in Latin America, the Caribbean and Sub-saharan Africa which all lead to the wealth of the country being concentrated in the hands of the few.
Those in power in India knew that they would be able to make more money from Western governments by following this path, thus lining their pockets and becoming rich, even though it was going to be at the expense of millions of citizens.
The people will have to rise up and revolt, like what is happening in Latin America.

Frankly, we have not yet come out of the sense of slavery. We Indian still think the a small bunch of so called politicians and govt. servants are the back bone of this country. some of them may be honest but majority of them are corrupt.Fortunately for these people,Most of Indian population is uneducated and are not aware of their basic rights. and the combo of politicians and governments take full advantage. In todays time our whole political and administrative system is a complete failure and urgently needs to be rewritten.Poverty along with population is real big problem in our country and it is a perfect breeding ground for rapid growth of corruption. But it can certainly be cured! all we need is to change our political and administrative system.

It large poor nation, divided by areas that have people that want to control them. You have everyone in government trying for their piece of the pie, because the people do not get info so they can not make intelligent decisions. The Government does not try to help the nation as a whole, they pick and place business so they reap the rewards they fail to bring in new business nor do they use government funds to improve the peoples living standards.

Politicians and corruption are the two faces of the same coin. Every corrupt officer is backed invariably by a politician. Added to this, poverty, ignorance, education and not aware of laws are the main criteria for corruption to go on the rise

Because in our society money has become more important than self esteem and self respect. Rich people, irrespect of by what means they have accumulated wealth, are being respected. There is a need to change the attitude of our society.
