A while back I left an enamel teakettle on the burner and once all the water evaporated, the teakettle burned on the burner and now it has hardened enamel all stuck to it.

Just now, I left a plastic measuring cup on a burner and the oven is on - yep, the cup melted onto the burner and now that burner has plastic all on it!

I know I'm lucky there've been no fires but I think I've learned my lesson. But.... how can I clean the enamel and plastic off of the burners? I have tried steel wool on the enamel one and it didn't budge.
If I turn on the burners they smoke very bad, so I can't do this and esp w/ the enamel I don't think that will work.

Any ideas? Thank you!~

I've taken out and scrubbed the enameled one, I might be able to drill or scrub off the plastic but I think the enameled one is done.
thanks for all the tips!~

To help save time and effort on your part, I would suggest buying a new burner. They slip out quite easily, and are relatively inexpensive. You can get one at Wal-Mart or Target or someplace like that and just throw the old one away. Good Luck!

Ive done the same thing. You need to get a Drimell hand drill. First you need to take the burner of the stove, it should just pull out. if you go to home depot you can get a Drimell with various attachments for around $30, Find a good spot outside to work and get to grinding. It really is easy to do.

HMMMMM....First of all stay away from the stove from now on!!!! LOL I think I would first try putting it in the freezer and seeing if it will chip off. If not you will have to turn it on and open the windows and let it rip! I would stay very close by and have salt or baking soda nearby! It will stink but it will definitely get the job done. Better yet let someone else handle this task since we aren't sure of your stove abilities just yet!!!!! (I am kidding!)
ORRR You could always go to a home improvement store and buy replacements....just stay away from them!

just go buy a new burner. they are not expensive and they just slip in and out. or, you can turn the burner on high and leave it on until it burns off the unwanted enamel and plastic

They are removable. You just have to squeeze or pull from the area it is plugged in to. Then take them out and clean them. Maybe a tooth brush or a scrubby sponge will work. If they are really bad I would replace them.
