Here's what my doctors told me:
1. Try to get pregnant when you're in remission, or at least have your disease well under control. You may be more likely to stay healthy that way.
2. Basically, a third of women get better during pregnancy, a third get worse, and a third stay the same. We all react differently to those hormones.
I was really, really lucky and was exceptionally healthy throughout my first pregnancy, and things are looking good for this one. Both times, I was in remission before getting pregnant. Both times, I also noticed an almost immediate slowing of my digestive system. For most pregnant women, that means constipation and all manner of suffering, but for me, that's a good thing.
So ... Yes, it can be risky, and you should be in close touch with your gastroenterologist if you plan on getting pregnant. But it can also be just fine -- or even better. A nurse once told me she knew a patient who had eight children because her Crohn's went into remission when she was pregnant!
Start healthy, be prepared for anything, and hope for the best.

My daughter-in-law just had her second child and has Crohn's. As far as I know, the only change was her medication dosage. There were no pregnancy/delivery complications from the disease. She had the baby via c-section, but that had nothing to do with Crohn's - she has narrow hips.

I had a friend who said that she knew someone who got pregnant with Crohns disease and her baby came out fine, though she needed a c-section.

Crohns has been known to go away when someone is pregnant. Ask your doctor.
