yes, Dancing is a sport because of the athletics that are required. This does not include the dancing that you do around the house. Like serious ballet, hip hop and others. Because they work your body just like in soccer. ( I do both soccer and dance) Dance is just a art as well. But if you want to be on pointe shoes you have to have strong leg muscles or you will just end up falling off and hurting yourself. If you watch people practice for serious dance teams and gymnastics competitions you will see. They train hard and sweat and use muscles you don't even know you have until you do it.
To be a dancer you must also have a Strong core of your body...like ABS! If you don't you ain't going to be Strong because you use abs and stomach muscles to control your body.
So yes serious dance is a sport because of the body tone and muscles you must have.

No Dancing is an art form that is more physically demanding than most "sports".
Some people think that dance is not a sport for the wrong reasons, dance is totally physically hard and keeps you healthy and strong (and pretty, and graceful)

Not really...without a doubt it is wonderful exercise and just as athletic and difficult (both mentally and physically) as professional sports like tennis, football, and baseball, but it is more of an art form than a sport. I define "sport" as a game or activity where you can determine your success through set rules, like scoring points. Judging dance is subjective, and dance can also be performed and interpreted in many different ways. That's why I prefer to dance instead of play sports.

I think it can be considered a sport in some arenas. In most, it is considered an art form. For instance, I coach a competitive cheerleading team who also competes in dance (a sport). Several of our coaches used to dance with dance companies (art form). Dance can be very subjective. It depends on what type of dancing is being done as to how it can be categorized.

No. A sport must meet three criteria: involves one or more balls, involves running, is played by two teams simultaneously competing against each other.

Sports: Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey (puck = flat ball), volleyball

Not sports: Golf, tennis, curling, gymnastics

Not even close: Jogging, crocheting, baking, reading the newspaper, dancing

I belive it is a spory I've been doing it for ten years. It's just like any other sport its a great work out and you compete against other dancers and do shows. It takes a lot of commitment and hard work its not just a hobby dancing is your life if your a serious dancer.
