As a retired, 32 yr former Social Security worker I can tell you that your SSN doesn't change when you change your name.

However, if a person does change their name they are required to change it on Social Security records. IRS receives alerts when a return is filed & the name on the return isn't the same as on Social Security records & they are withholding refunds until the name change is processed with Social Security.
