OMG, yes, they are as a matter of fact. This is a good question. I certainly think so. Perfect example to prove it: I worked in banking for years and saw how the people with huge sums of money got more interest off their money, making them more money; they got free accounts, checks, everything. Regular people living paycheck to paycheck never got these free services! Matter of fact the bank constantly hit them with $35 insufficient fund fees!
There are tons of other things going on out there, but it's a shame. Everybody wasn't born with a silver spoon in there mouth and there are some hard working people out there who bust their butts, but are getting poorer!

Yes
I can remember when I was a kid and Dad would work and Mom was...well a housewife..in case you don't remember what a housewife is, the woman job was to maitain the house, raise the kids, paid the bills and make shure that there is 3 meals on the table ever day.
Nowadays you have both parents working. Kids are either drop off at day care or Grandparents.
In 1995 the Federal Goverment said that the middle clase has been broken into four groups.
One, a household that works and is able to save money.
Two, a household that works and is able to save some money.
Three, a household that works and not able to save money.
Four, a household that works and not able to save moeny and one of the parents need a second income.

Now with the middle class being broken up, it's a wonder that the poor can even instist. Then you have your cry babies that will say the poor don't want to work. Well lets think about it, if all the people in the US is able to work, where do you think all these jobs are coming from???
There is not enough jobs out there for everybody, we read in the news of lay-offs almost ever day.
Yes the rich are getting richer, at least they have friends who run this country for the rich so you know that the rich get all kinds of tax breaks..Yes the middle class do pay for everything but our goverment take more from you then you give to welfare by any day...Lets see, Bush wants $100,000,000 for a war, for a Iraq. A Country that never attacked us? Maybe he should take a class and find out where Afganstan is??? But then again, they is oil in Iraq. And remember what happen to Daddy Bush was Pres. All those Oil wells went up in flames...That is where your money is going..Not in the poor people pockets as the Goverment would like you to think.
So it's time to wake up and take back what is ours...America..Home for the Free no matter what you income is or race or religion.

How about you look at the evidence for yourself? Are you poorer than your parents? Do you have a old crappy car that you can't afford while 5 years ago you had a new car with no problem paying off your payments? Do you notice the same trend among your peers, or around the nation? IS THE NATION STARVING? How about this.. there is less than a million homeless in the nation, that's less the .3%. I would be willing the bet that that is the best ever in history. The Top 20% most wealthy people in the Country pay 95% of the nations taxes, but also they create 100% of the nations jobs, besides gov't. So I would say that NO, rish people are getting richer making good investments in the lower middle class, and the poor class.. making them more wealthy as well. Enjoy the wealth!!! Because you owe all your wealth to the rich that invested in you.

All the statistics show that the wealth of the US is consolidated in the hands of a very few people and while their wealth has significantly increased, more people are on welfare and more people are dropping out of the middle-class.

That is what happens with this version of capitalism, that is the cost of "make as much as possible for yourself" attitude that is so rampant.

I have an MBA in Marketing and International Business, I am not complaining, but I am honest....I can find jobs here in Florida that pay $5.75 to start so don't tell me that McDonalds starts at $8/hr and the market pays REAL WAGES.

If the market paid real wages, jobs wouldn't have to be OUTSOURCED. The point is to SAVE EVERY PENNY so that the executives and shareholders can earn more, unfortunately the employees often don't see these increased profits.

The US is in for a rude awakening and for all you middle-class who made more this year than ever, keep saying that until the AMT hits you...let's see you go whining then.

No, the rich are getting richer while the middle class is getting poorer and the poor are getting supported by the middle class, so as long as they don't have to get a job, they don't really care either way.

American's don't know what poverty is.
If your car is more than 5 years old, you are poor. If your kid is still playing a playstation 2 instead of a PS3 or a Wii, you are poor. If not one of the five televisions in your home is HDTV, you are poor. If your cell phone is more than a year old, you are poor. If your kid's brand new sneakers were bought at Walmart instead of Macy's, you are poor.

The minumum wage has gone up SUBSTANTIALLY. No not the federal minimum wage. But the real wage, that the market will pay. I implore you to pick up a paper and try and find a job anywhere that pays the federal min wage. All over the country, mcdonalds is paying at least $8 an hour. Why? that's what it costs to get an employee in the door.

Yes.

For quite a while, there was a growing middle class, fewer and fewer poor, and a shrinking disparity between top and bottom.

Since Reagan, all of these good trends have been reversed -- a greater and greater proportion of wealth concentrated into fewer and fewer hands, a shrinking middle class, a growing, and increasingly poorer lower class.

Basically, we're moving in the direction of Feudalism, where a very, very few owned everything, and almost everyone else had nothing.

All of the BS about the government trying to get rid of the middle class is exactly that.....BS. I am middle class, we made more this past year than ever. Why? Because we both (my husband and I) made career changes that benefited us financially. We have worked HARD over the years and gained tons of experience in our fields to allow us to move up. Some people are born into an "economic station" in life and stay there, whether it be poverty or wealth. Most of us choose to either enter a field with growth potential or we don't. This is America and no matter how corny it sounds, anyone can make it here. Sure it takes a little luck but mostly it's all about blood, sweat and tears.

-es. the problem is that poor people are rewarded for breeding. this increases the number of poor. since intelligence is heritable, and intelligence is linked to earning potential, this makes a strong argument for eugenics, and mandatory sterilization. why should the workers have to pay for and support the indolent and bottom feeders? once upon a time, high infant mortality rates protected society, but now we have to give them medicaid and prenatal care. Post -partem infections also culled some of the breeders and significantly impacted the masses ablility to procreate.

Yes, it is now. And NO, it has NOT "always been that way." During the Clinton administration, every socio-economic class got richer. That's right! Every one. It has only been the last six years that the administration has been trying to do away with the middle class and the difference between the richest and poorest has increased exponentially.
