In addition to Amazon.com (new or used), you can try half.com or Ebay. When my wife went back to school I got her some books from half.com. Some of my students have used that too. Half.com has listings by condition of the book, so you can choose something in better condition or something cheaper.

While there are a few sites that cater exclusively to students looking for used textbooks, I usually find a larger selection and comparable prices on Amazon. I also feel that I'm more likely to get my money back if something goes wrong with the sale, although I've never had anything like that happen.
You can also find some REALLY good deals on ebay, but that can be very hit or miss, depending on whether anyone is actually selling what you need.
Best of luck.
