Yes, because people can be overly ambitious. When they're overly ambitious, they're unable to recognize their peers successes and feel threatened by other's. They steal the credit for work. They can't cooperate and they can only compete. They can't offer assistance in areas where there's no reward. In fact they can become reward junkies.
Consequently, such ambitions can lead to unethical behavoir and compromised results. Ambition can be detrimental

Yes, but it all depends on the details. If your ambition is to help the sick and poor, everyone will think it's great. If you want to take over the world and impose your will as law, some people will be p.o.'d about that.
