I see most of the answers above are not smart, hypocritical, unformed, or irresponsible. The correct answer is because Brazil's culture descent from the Portuguese in its earliest roots, that is, a culture that is built-in the idea of taking advantage of the moment. With that in mind, also remember that there is no such thing as a "Pilgrim's mindset" as there is in the USA and that means that sexual activities are viewed not to serve God but to serve people's personal pleasures. On top of that add the fact that many years of dictatorship, which emphasized certain pleasures in order to pacify people, allowed the spread of sexual freedoms... it is very common in Brazil that most males and females have lovers, affairs, one-time flings, etc.... then return to normal life with their loved ones.... it is not promiscuity but rather a view of the world and life that strikingly differs from cultures such as those in Europe and the USA where sexual life is repressed.
