Answer to Q1: Should be.
Answer to Q2: A Pendium D is a processor with two cores on it, so, supposedly, everything should be twice as quicker. Unfortunately, the only programs that really takea advantage of 2 cores are Adobe Photoshop and Such.
Otherwise, a good machine, except the Pentium D isn't a very good processor. I'd be going for a Core Duo 2 if I were you. But, a Pentium D should get you through - besides, most games barely know what to do with 2 cores!
You may also want a new monitor.
I hope this has been of some help!

Yes, it will be adequate for most games. Though, I think you may have made a slight error on the graphics card, I believe you meant a 7600GT (I know of no 7600GS models with DDR3 memory though I could be mistaken in this instance).
These days a Pentium D 820 would be considered a budget processor but it is a dual core processor operating at 2.8GHz per core. It offers excellent bang for your buck performance, I would choose it over any of the Athlon 64x2 offerings. That being said there is only one change I would make...
Upgrade the memory to 2GB when you get the chance, it'll make all the difference in the world, especially if you want to upgrade to Vista at a later time.
If you really get into gaming you will want to get Vista and a DirectX 10 graphics card to take advantage of newer games coming like like Crysis and Halo 2 (Being a Vista exclusive title).
DirectX 10 graphics cards are currently available from nvidia in the form of the 8 series starting at $270. The 8600 series cards will be available within the next month or so at a lower cost.
You may also have to upgrade your power supply to support the 8800 series but probably not for the 8600 series.

It's not a bad gaming PC by any means. It's a nice, solid, dual-core processor, there's a solid gig of RAM in it, and and the hard drive space is sufficient for what you need it to do. The machine will certainly run BF2 or Counterstrike with no problem.
The important thing is to make sure it's housed in a nice tower that you can upgrade when the time comes. Switching out the Graphics Card in the future is no big deal, nor is adding more RAM if you find it necessary, nor is adding in a second hard drive.
Overall, it's a solid PC for gaming and one that can be easily upgraded as time goes on- the processor is the most permanent part of the system, and the one in this model is good to go.
Go for it. Hope this helps, and read other people's opinions- this one is just mine :)

#1 yes , just great . Mine is a very close computer (i have the same processor and specs, but different graphics.) Its runs just perfect on mine
#2 Intel pentium D is a great Dual Core Processor, This was the preceding core before the Intel Core/2 Duo. Im using the pentium D from having a basic pentium 4 core at about the same speed and using a dual core is much better. Heres and example.
You can play DVDs while also checking your e-mail or run your virus scaner at the same time with out lags. Since one of the cores the computer chose to handle the DVD and the other core to handle the other processes. Have two cores is much better than using just one core. Also your computer will boot up faster and will start up faster when you log on.
Intel Pentium D ROCKS!!! =) NOTE TO ALL OTHERS:
INTEL PENTIUM HT IS NOT A DUAL CORE!!!. The computer thinks it is because it has to two threads to hand tasks on one core, it is still a single core, but better than having a basic pentium 4 core.

it is going to play the maximum recent video games, yet maximum of them will paintings slow on severe settings. Why? Celeron isn't the gaming cpu sequence. Get an i3,i5 intel cpu, or a Phenom quad center from AMD.

What you have is fine for what you need, however. There are other computers for less money with the same specs. You really need to shop around. I recommend you go to the following web sites and do some shopping before you spend all that money." Bestbuy.com", "CompUSA.com". "Staples.com", Office Depot.com" and maybe to make it easier," Shopzilla.com".
Good luck, shop around before your spend the money. besides new PC's come with some programs and warranties, and support help. and some come with rebates.

Dont you think for $750 your paying way to much?
For a $500 HP and a $110 7600GT= $610
1GB ddr? why not 2GB ddr2?
Why a GS and not aGT?
Why a pentiumD and not AMD X2?
Why WinXP HE and not PRO or MCE?
