The Philippines was the only country in South East Asia that was dominated by the Spanish.

When Spain went to war with the United States in 1899, Spain lost the Philippines to the U.S, and remained a colony of the U.S until after 1945. And even then, the U.S still retained its military bases at Subic Bay (olongapo) and at Clark Airbase in Angeles in Central Luzon.

Apart from that, the Rest of S.E Asia was either dominated by the British, the U.S, the French, the Portuguese or the Dutch.
