Why is it that even with all the side effects that come with various prescription drugs and alchohol, including the "addictive properties", they remain legal, yet marijuana & others, on the other hand, having side effects as well, remain illegal? Where exactly is the line drawn? It can't be that marijuana makes people stupid because alchohol does that yet it's legal...

It is very simple and I don't understand why ppl ask this question so often.

Marijuana can not be made legal because it is a drug that alters the mind and does harm to the body even when used in MODERATION.

In layman's terms, one beer does no harm to your body and does not get you high, whereas, one toke off of a joint does.

Prescription drugs aren't 100% legal, they're CONTROLLED drugs that are only legal when prescribed by a licensed doctor and being used to relieve or heal some ailment.

Although medicinal marijuana is gaining grounds as being effective it is more widely used for recreation.

You're referring to prescibtion medication as recreation drugs and trying to compare the two. It doesn't work that way. Marijuana is legal in same context that prescription drugs are legal. It is also ILLEGAL in same context that prescription drugs are ILLEGAL.

Alcohol, on the other hand, is also a controlled substance even though it is only used for recreation. The reason behind that is far beyond me. It could be a form of social control, or it could just be that it's been around almost as long as the dawn of time.

Hope this helped.

Any kind of drug perscription or not can be "addictive" am I right or am I wrong? Marijuana isn't exactly used for medical reasons...people want to use it for the wrong reasons. With perscription medicines you have to go through a doctor to say that it's ok for you to go to a pharmacy and get those perscribed drugs. Also, marijuana is bad for your lungs as pills aren't. True alcohol is legal...but only when you're 21 and alcohol has it's limitations.

The Government hasn't figured out a way to control the growth and distribution of Marijuana.
It doesn't have to be compounded, distilled, or cooked down. It can be grown, harvested and used with no regulation.
Until the Feds can figure out a way to control the use and production of Pot in the US, it will never be legalized, IMO.
It's sad, too, because alcohol causes so many more serious problems than marijuana use does.
Good luck.

If Marijuana was legal, then nobody would buy Prozac! The pharmaceutical companies spend millions of dollars lobbying Congress donating to Congressional campaigns and writing the drug laws for Congress, while the people who smoke spend all their money on weed!

Prescription drugs are only legal if you are the one posessing them as assigned by a doctor. You cannot have drugs in your posession that were not prescribed to you by a doctor.

Marijuana does have some medical benefits, as in easing pain, and its a very big debate as to whether or not to use them nationwide in a medical sense.

But prescription drugs are tested and determined by the FDA that the benifits outweigh the negatives. And marijuana is a huge debate for those reasons.

The U.S. government makes way too much money arresting and charging people for possesion of marijuana. Far more than they would be taxing on it.

Maybe because studies show that a high percentage of people who experiment with marijuana go on to try and become addicted to much harsher drugs ie. crack, meth, cocaine etc. Just a guess though.

Because pharma companies have spent hundreds of millions developing alternate drugs. They need to make their money.
The bottom line is money. If the right people could make enough money off of reefer it would be legal. How can you make money from something people can grow in their backyard. Follow the money.
