if the cd is brand new you should have a disk to install it.
go to my computer and see if you see a cd drive listed drive E or D. if so in the control panel go to system info
then device manager and see if its listed there or has a problem.
email me if you need help

There might be a problem with the drive installation. Unplug your computer from everything and open the side( If you don't know how to do this then don't do it) and take out the drive. Check the jumpers (a little chip on two prongs) and make sure that if you have another drive that the jumpers match. Also, try to get a cleaner and clean the lens. Hope this works.

who installed it? If you did you messed up. unpllug the pc and take a look to make sure the jumper is set properly. If you have two cdroms, one needs to be the master and the other needs to be the slave. You should use the master/slave settings to avoid problems with identification. Make sure you have the power plugged in to the cd rom also. Double check the ribbon and make sure it is plugged into the mobo/cdrom/s correctly. Replace the cdrom with another new one of better brand. Good luck ....pcr

Could be that the drive has a dirty laser lens. There are various products available at Walgreen's, Walmart, etc. that will clean the lens - start there first. It says "drive E" is there another optical drive on the computer and did you check it with your CD?
Beyond that - the drive might need replaced.

It's frustrating but I know what you mean. I get the same thing. I don't really know
what to tell you other than to insert the CD into drive E and see what happens.
Good luck. Computers can be such a pain can't they.
