During the war food supplies were often not easily available. Items which most people consider staples such as sugar or beef were often difficult to obtain. Ration books helped the government to make sure that people could get their share of what was available. The ration book would contain coupons that specified an item and a specific amount of that item and that coupon must be produced in order to purchase those supplies. I was not alive then so I have never seen one but I have heard and read enough to have a pretty good idea about them. I hope this helps.

Even though it's boring for you, it's one of the saddest stories I've ever encountered. Try reading it as this story actually happened. If you think this is boring, you will have to read even more boring books throughout the year for more book reports. To make it short---in the midst of WW2, The Frank family as well as a few family friends has gone into hiding for 2 years from the Nazis because they are Jews. Anne, a genius writer, has written the tales of their imprisonment into a great story. The family characters are Anne Frank, Margot Frank, Mother(forgot the name), Otto Frank, the van Pels, and a dentist.

During WW2, both sides rationed things, in the US, things like gasoline and meat were rationed.

A ration book either had stamps, or a place that was to be stamped.

When you went to the butcher to buy a pound of meat, not only would you have to pay for it, but you also had to give him a stamp. When you ran out of stamps in your ration book, you got no more meat.

The other type of ration book had pages in it, and on each page, there was a place to be stamped with a rubber stamp, when all the pages were full, you didn't get any more.

Due to the war there were food shortages. People had to use coupons from ration (which means portion) books to get basic staple foods. There were ration books in America too during this time.

In WW2 civilians were issued books of coupons that they could redeem at the store to buy food and products that were "rationed" because the military needed most of them. Meat, dairy, bread, rubber, gasoline, sugar -- these kind of things were rationed and people could only buy a certain amount each week.

During war, the government issues coupons (or ration books) on stuff that is in short supply, say gas, or sugar, or meat. And you can only buy that stuff with one of these coupons.
