Is college the same as high school in that everyone is divided into different social classes and groups? Or are there less cliques or none at all?

It depends on the school. Some colleges have big divisions based on whether you're in a frat/sorority and which one, whether you're an athlete, what dorm you live in, etc. And that is on top of where you're from, how wealthy your parents are, race/ethnicity/religion, etc. Other schools don't have these cliques. That is something you need to investigate at any school you're considering. One place to check is Princeton Review, which has a good amount of information about schools that you can use as a starting point in your research.

Absolutely! All those cliquish high school graduates need to cluster back together to feel safe and secure in college!

Not every college is the same, however. Some will have an open, unified vibe. Others will have a more closed, cliquish vibe. Most colleges have at least a handful of cliques.

there are cliques in college but it is not at all like high school. there is a divide though, in college like you're wondering. clearly among people with different social classes and backgrounds. but there's hope. there are many activities going on around campus, and you can never be sure who are going to run into, you may meet an interesting friend or a couple of 'em. many of 'em among different backgrounds.
