There's no one brand of guitar that's best for everyone, go to the store and play a few. If this is your starter guitar you might want to try Squire, it's Fender's cheaper brand, it's good enough to practice on. For an amp go with something better, my first amp was a Fender frontman, ot's not amazing but it's good for starter gigs. Get something you can carry so you can bring it to your shows, it's always best to have your own because you never know what the house amp is going to sound like and at this point your really don't need a cabinet.
Go when they have a sale so you save some money and try an independent store before you go to the major ones, ask them if you can buy the floor model, you'll know exactly what you are getting because you see it and play it and it's usually in new condition but it's cheaper then the box that you don't get to open in the store.

Why does everyone insist on buying new for a first guitar???? Look at pawn shops, check the classifieds. You can probably find a decent guitar that someone doesn't want anymore for a pretty good price. You want the best you can get for the money. You night do like I did 30 yrs ago and find a diamond in the rough. I found a Gibson SG that someone had stripped the finish of of. Even the Gibson logo on the headstock was gone. THe pawnshop guy had no idea what it was. $50 later it was mine. I still have it today.

hmmm... definietly go with the ibanez for the guitar... they are, lighter, less bulky and feel more comfortable... plus u can actually get down to the 24th fret on them with no problem, try an RGseries for a starter... on the othere hand if you want a decent quality solid state amplifier go with fender... also try ebay, they usually have good deals for guitars and equiptment

My first guitar was an Epiphone and I also had a Takamine, those are both great accustic guitars, I say learn to play on an accoustic before you buy an amp.
