Ok I am a freshman pitcher throwing around 70 mph, i want to get stronger, increase stamina, and such by working harder than everyone, however during the regular season should i continue to lift weights every day even though it might take a bit away from my pitching at this point in time, should i only lift on days i dont have games? and if neither what are some other exercises I can use to build arm, leg and core strength during the season without hurting my pitching on a short term basis?

I'm a Division I baseball player, and I can tell u DONT LIFT on days u have games, cuz ur muscles will be way too tense and u wont have the zip or break on ur curveball. The main thing u wanna work on during the season is leg presses, the majority of ur speed and velocity comes from the push off u get from the rubber. If you have the means, use a machine with pulleys to where u can have a throwing motion, and if possible makes throwing motions as hard as u can, for me i usually did around 20-30 pounds but, it all depends on how strong u are and what ur equipment is like. But most importantly, make sure your mechanics are good, make sure that ur arm isnt dipping into a three quarters position, do get a max effect on ur fastball. But yeah make sure since your a pitcher to keep ur workouts light during the season and ur main focus on ur legs and ur mechanics, when i was a freshman i threw between 65-70 and now as a sophomore at LSU, im hitting about 88-92 comfortably. i added 7 Mph by tweeking a few things in my mechanics, i know i keep saying it but mechanics, mechanics, mechanics. And a little tip for u if u dont already know this, to get a killer 2 seam fast-ball hold it gently, and throw it somewhat side armed to where it comes off ur middle finger, if u do it right it will act like a maddux sinker... just a little tip for u.....but best of luck this season man and i hope it works out for u...

I wouldn't lift at all during the season but I would do leg work. The biggest thing pitchers today, as well as other position players, don't do is long toss. Every day that you are going to be throwing the ball, whether from the mound or any other place, your warm-up throwing should progressively increase in distance. Once you are loose you should make 5-6 throws from the outfield, letting loose with all you got. Be sure to do this in the off-season when you're lifting as well. Flexibility increases arm speed. Arm speed produces velocity, not strength.

just throw and make sure you maintain your arm by iceing it, you have to prevent injury. if your gonna lift do it 3 times a week and do light weight high reps just to keep your other muscles in shape because there is some baseball dont always work, for leg and core lifts do leg extensions, leg curls, leg press, squats, dead lifts, dumb bell bench press, work your calves alot they provide your push and also do sit ups and crunches and anyother ab exercise you can think of you always need a strong trunk it provides alot of your explosiveness. and do alot of short sprints. pitching has all to do with explosiveness. and listen to what bouncer 21 says he sounds like he knows his stuff and hes a d1 player

If you are a pithcer only then you should lift twice a week on offdays and make sure not to lift the day before or after you pitch.
