My mom was saying that the chances of getting a job when somebody fills out an online application is not as good as when you get a paper application and turn it in. Is this true?

It depends. If the company prefers online application, then yours will be thrown out if you do it on paper, and vice versa.

There is always the chance the online system might eat it up. There's also the chance a paper app can get lost in the mail, get accidently thrown into the trash with other papers, etc.

Some people recommend you do paper resumes and cover letters so as to stand out from all the online apps.

Either way, the best thing you should do is call a week or so after you send in your application either way, to confirm it arrived/was downloaded. Keep backups or copies either way.

And if you find a place loses its applications easily, you should reconsider working for such a sloppy and badly run place.

I would say it really depends on the job and company (size). One of the main reasons they use the online is they can easily make a database from the info and search it for job candidates.

If you send a paper application to a large company they have to process it through many channels. Not so much if it is a smaller company.

In general, companies want to find the best candidate for their positions, and whatever makes it easier for them to find you is what they want.

particular, I certainly have gained call backs and internships by using on line applications. First, you ought to be qualified for the job. Secondly, you ought to coach which you rather want the job. every person can word on line--yet very few applicants persist with up via calling the employer's HR branch. you ought to courtroom the HR workers and stay in touch. in case you be attentive to every person working in the employer, have her or him be your individual cheerleader. The HR workers are the wall between you and the employer--so so you might do all you are able to to electrify and please those persons.
