Snare drum is something I have been playing since I was in 6th grade. I am 20 years old now, and I say that it takes a little while. Practice makes perfect, as the cliche goes. I would also say that it is not so much the difficulty of learning the snare, it's playing snare, bass, and toms together that is quite difficult. I say if you are trying to learn snare is order to also learn an entire set, start off with snare. The snare in my opinion is the most complex of a standard set. Doing rolls and "paradiddles" ( a simple rudiment) that goes left stick right stick, left, left, right stick left stick right, right. After you get the rolls and the "paradiddles", it all seems to go downhill. Anyhow, good luck!

One good summer in marching band will teach you the basics and more. If you have a teacher who pays attention to you, snare can be learned very quickly. How good you depends on how much you practice.

I started in Jr. High so that would be about 25 years ago. I can play some stuff, but I am still learning.
Funny thing about drums. There are so many ways to play, so many techniques.

Pretty hard but well worth it! The time it takes depends on your dedication to the craft! If you practice religiously you will soon see results

Depends a lot on you, how good you are catching on and how hard you work at it... also depends on how good you want to be at it; anyone can just play it, making music with it is another thing

It really varies because everyone is different. It just depends on how well you take to it and how easy it is for you. I wish you the best with it though.

Well, that depends on how proficient you want to be. My guess would be to take lessons for at least 1 year.
