As someone who owns a telemarketing company I feel I would like my 2 pennies worth, mostly because people are confused.
Firstly there is telesales and telemarketing. Telesales is very much your double glazing, cheap calls and broadband and all the other flodded markets you can think of. Telemarketing is very much Business to Business. Setting appointments etc.
I agree calls to the home should be band and if your in the UK you can add your number to the TPS Telephone preference Service, although it won't stop those unwanted calls from India from "Steve" or " Michael " .
A survey showed that almost 85% of business's use the telephone to promote their services, which means you may not like the calls to your offices, but the likelyhood is your company is doing it to others.

No its a job like any other and there is a difference between call centres and telemarketing, the ones that phone you at home selling kitchens etc should be controlled better but telemarketing is business to business and the business I work for does very well and keeps me in a job.

Call centres are the modern day factories,if they were banned who would employ all the people out of work. I have worked in a few and it is no picinic believe me, people are only trying to do a job that keeps them off the dole.

Our culture is slowly bringing them to their demise.
I work at a finance company. Two years ago, it was extremely rare for someone to be lacking a home phone number. Recently, nobody has a home number, and everyone just carries around a personal cell. The numbers for those are a little harder to get a hold of.

No i love them.Especially the ones trying to sell you mobiles.I use Virgin and pay for my calls monthly by direct debit.This really throws them as they cannot work it out and gets them really frustrated.Also I'm a Geordie lad and really put it on when I'm talking to them.They have no chance.My girt makes me put it on hands free so she can have a laugh as well.God bless them.
