I don't think that the Yankees and Red Sox players hate each other, if you watch the games between the two, you'll see players like Jeter and Giambi chatting and joking with Red Sox players., or Manny and Ortiz talking with the Yankee players. It's the fans who pretty much hate each other, and blow things out of proportion.
There are exceptions though. The Red Sox don't like A-Rod at all (like many Yankee fans), while the Yankees don't like Schilling because of his mouth, and Varitek because of him starting the fight three years ago and not having the guts to take his mask and glove off.
By and large, I think the players have a grudging respect for each other.

The teams are larger than any player, the fans are larger than the teams, and the fans are from Boston and New York, what else do u expect? Really, think about it, the fans (cheese)stand alone!
