Under reason for leaving my current job, would it be best to state "looking for more challenging position and competitive salary"? Someone previously suggested to state looking for more challenging position, but it is not so much the position, but also the salary I would like to emphasize.

In my humble opinion, I would leave off the salary portion of that statement. I think that your saying that you are looking for a challenging position and possibly room for advancement (or growth) sounds more goal-oriented.

I understand salary is important but I think you should say I'm looking for position that is more challenging and there is room for advacement within the dept or company.

The reason you should not say salary because your going to make them think if they hire you and next day someone pay you more you will leave this company and go to another. Even through everyone does that but employer does not want to hear that.

I would say looking for a more challenging position. If you mention the salary part, they'll think you are just in the job for the money, but if you mention you are up for a challenge, then they'll see you are eager for your position, and willing to face any job that is given to you. With that, they'll see what you are really worth, and would be more willing to pay you more.

Leave off the part about the salary. Potential employers will think you're only in it for the money and that you'll leave their job as soon as a higher paying position is presented to you. Good luck.

From a Managers opinion, I would say yes of course, if you have a salary range you are looking at you should definitly put that on the application. That way, if you are called in for an interview, you and the person interviewing you are all the same page.

honestly is not always the best policy...neither is lying...so just don't mention it....i would recommend putting down "looking for more challenging work/position" Telling your employer you are looking for money doesn't really help when hiring you because if I was to hire you I don't want you to work for me just cause of money but because you like my company and want to help it grow or at least that what they like to think. ;)

the more you know...
