i have a nintendo ds lite and wouldnt mind buying one of those cartridges that play multimedia stuff. however i am concerned that the ds is not originally designed for movies and therefore would dramatically drain the battery or cause malfunction in the hardware.

I have had the M3 DS Simply and the R4DS for a while and I have been able to play movies with no problems. It will drain the battery significantly when playing a movie, but it has never caused any malfuntion in the hardware.
