This is someone I know. She is a lady her very late 50's .

When she is at home, all she does for her free time is watch QVC or Home Shopping Network.

And everyday she has the UPS man deliver another package of crap she bought off of there.

Anybody know anybody else like this?

what would you think is wrong with her?

How do you know she's not trying to *supplement* her income by selling on eBay, for a profit, the stuff she buys on QVC and HSN?

There is something wrong here. This lady could have what is called an Obsessive compulsive disorder. This is best known as someone who washes their hands alot but this is not always the case. This lady could be a compulsive buyer and be seriously addicted and unles she is a millionaire or something, she could end up in alot of debt and trouble. If you know her well enough you should try to talk to her about it. Dont TELL her what to do though, just make sure she is aware that she may have a condition and is aware of the reprocussions it may cause.

I think she's probably lonely and possibly depressed. Buying things is giving her a short term buzz, and maybe seeing the UPS guy even for a minute makes her feel like she's interacting with someone.

I suggest trying to draw her out abit. Ask her to walk with you and your kid to the park, as you like to have an extra eye on them or something. Ask her to join your keep fit class to help you be motivated. Ask her to do a session at the charity shop. Make her think she's useful. Once out, introduce her to people and support her. Hopefully she'll develop a social life but she'll need help.

If this isn't working, (and you'll probably need to keep trying), take her some flowers and say you're concerned that she doesn't go out much, and she's young. My parents are in their late fifties, they are always doing things, going on, holidays, classes, helping charities... Actually just feeling someone noticed and is concerned could help her.

She is a widow and lonely and feels that having lots of materials possessions will fill her life. This is my guess. What do you care what she does with her time and her own money? Why are you home all the time watch the UPS guy delivering boxes to her? Shouldn't you be at the office or something?

Poor lady is getting older and feeling more alone every day. She buries her sorrow in packages and gifts, things she doesn't need. It gives her a little excitement, a reason to live on. She probably feels like her life is at its end. But she needs to know that there are classes she can take and groups she can join to get out there and enjoy her life.

If you have any time, maybe you should spend it with her.

What's wong with you? If you were so busy and pre occupied, howcome you know all her moves? Why can't she watch tv home shopping and place orders as she likes. Is she harming you or her neighbours in any way? I think she's quite happy by herself and not bothering a soul. And who are you to judge whether she's buying crap or not. You sound very jealous and resentful of her. Either it's her money or her lifestyle you envy.

I know people who sit at their computor for hours, just answering question after question and searching data bases for information. I'm one, I have time and I like it and I don't work and have not begun to write the book I want to yet, sooooo, here I am, most of us are here as she is there because it's a pleasant pass time. And-- added bonus! Your brain is functioning interactivly! Hope that helps!

she may be lonely, be depressed, everyone has a vice. Clearly hers is overspending via QVC. Or she may be buying stuff to resell on ebay. Or it is a front for some scandalous larceny ring going on right under your nose

I know quite a few people like this, actually. It's just a shopping addiction only buying stuff on TV, rather than the internet or the mall.
