Okay I really want to go to school in Japan next spring so I am learning Japanese. I know that you have to be fluent (which is understandable), but what level do foreigners have to be in order to get into a university?

Also, what is the easiest way of learning Kanji? how do you remember the correct stroke order? with practice? or is there some sort of trick?

Thank you :)

As far as the Nihongo Kentei, to enter a university and be accepted into the regular program, while not having to take all the Japanese language classes, you must have at least a level 2 score. You must also have a level 2 conversational level. If not, you will be required to take all the language classes. With a level 1, you will only be required to take a minimum of 1 language class per semester.

Now, I just spoke with the director of Foreign Student Affairs at my school and he said that to enter a university, you do not need a Kanji kentei score. The need for the Kanji Kentei score is when a foreigner applies for a job with a Japanese company. The company then requires both the Kanji Kentei and the Nihongo kentei. But for university entrance, only the nihongo kentei is required.

Sorry about that. I speak to the Foreign student affairs people and the Job placement people all the time and I guess my wires got a little crossed.

Either way, if you are planning to work in Japan, you will need the Kanji Kentei eventually, unless you are going to teach English. That is a whole other monster. LOL.

Good luck.

u have to have at least the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) level 2. (4 being lowest, 1 being expert)
Also, some schools need u to sit for the Entrance to Japanese Universities (EJU) test.
Most schools need u to be in japan, to apply to their school, and take their entrance examinations.
Do check with schools in mind. They may differ.

Best way of learning kanji is to write more. Check up the kanji when not clear and write it. good way is to start to practice it with everyday lives eg. start writing ur schedule in diary in japanese! takes time initially but soon u'll get the hang of it! :)
